It is proposed that there will be one masterplan for the comprehensive development of the whole of the former Lec site which includes a new Sainsbury's foodstore and a mix of employment generating uses.
The "core" land use will comprise a new Sainsbury's supermarket, together with ancillary facilities, on 8 acres of the land acting as an "anchor" occupier in order to enable the viable redevelopment of the rest of the site.
SDLL will retain about 2.5 acres of land to be redeveloped into mixed employment uses as defined in the approved Development Brief, such as an enterprise centre, workshop or industrial units. Sainsbury's and SDLL have submitted a joint application for the supermarket scheme and an outline application for the Retained Land has been submitted by SDLL.
