Public Enquiry
As you know the Secretary of State has ‘called in’ the application for the supermarket taking the responsibility for determining the planning application away from Arun District Council. Instead, a public inquiry will consider the proposals in May of this year.
Decisions will be based on the results of an inquiry which is expected to last for 8 days starting from the 11th May 2010. The Inspector will base his/her judgements on the information presented by all parties and then make a recommendation to the Secretary of State for a final decision.
Sainsbury’s and Sime Darby are continuing to work closely together and are consulting their advisors to prepare for the inquiry.
The time table for the next phase is tight but we are optimistic that, with the continued support and help from our stakeholder group, the local community and expert advisors, we can present a good case.
Anyone wishing to make a comment to the Planning Inspectorate needs to ensure that they do this before the 11th April as this gives them time to process the information. If you would like to find out how to comment please contact us and we can give you the necessary details.

Airfield Site
You may have noticed that SDLL made representations to ADC regarding the proposed North/South Relief Road recently. ADC have been considering the redesign of the East/West Relief Road and SDLL wished to make sure that any changes wouldn’t prejudice the connection at a future date of the North/South route. Such assurance was provided by ADC.
The future of the Airfield Site is undecided and SDLL wishes to keep all options open as to the possible future uses. More details on the Airfield Site Page

The Hoarding Panels
SDLL have, as promised, updated the panels on the large hoardings situated on the Lec Site adjacent to the A29, Shripney Road.
The approach this time was to use local photographers and have one large image reflecting the following themes: Town, Sea Front and Fun!
The photographers have kindly donated their photos for use.
They are:
Jamie Denyer, Mark Bradford and The Bognor Regis Observer photographer
In addition, there is a panel that continues to display the Bognor Regis regeneration logo created by Arun District Council designer, Julie Goldsmith.
Before the summer SDLL intends to renew the panels again and this time the theme will be Regeneration. We are keen to have ideas or expressions of interest from any community group or organisation who would like to be involved. Click here to contact us
