Sime Darby London Ltd (SDLL)

Sime Darby is a Malaysian company listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange. The company is a diversified conglomerate with main businesses in plantations, property, motor vehicle and heavy equipment distribution, oil and gas engineering and utilities.

Sime Darby London Ltd (SDLL) acquired Lec Refrigeration plc in 1994 and invested over £35 million in a brand new state-of-the-art refrigeration factory which was built on the New Era Estate. The old Lec site was decommissioned and left vacant in 2004.

Unfortunately, Lec suffered heavy losses and underwent several restructuring exercises over the years due to stiff competition from cheap imports and the strong Pound. A decision was made to sell the business and this was accomplished in 2005, when Glen Dimplex Home Appliances bought the company.
