Access to the Site

It is proposed to create an improved vehicular access to the site from the A29 which would serve the Sainsbury's store and the employment generating uses on the land retained by SDLL.

It is currently proposed that all vehicles leaving the site would turn left onto the A29. Traffic signals would be introduced on the southbound carriageway only in order to regulate traffic flows and allow vehicles to turn right into the site via a filter lane.

A Traffic Assessment has been undertaken which demonstrates that there is sufficient capacity on the local road network to accommodate the scheme. A large proportion of journeys to the site would already be on the existing road network but would be diverted from other foodstore destinations.

Green Travel Plans for the Sainsbury's store and the Retained Land have been prepared as part of the planning applications submitted to ADC, to promote sustainable modes of transport for staff and customers. Cycle stands will be provided at both the Sainsbury's store and the Retained Land.
